Downtown Stillwater

Downtown Stillwater, the Stillwater Lift Bridge, and the riverfront are a designated historic district. However, Stillwater residents and visitors are unable to fully enjoy the downtown area due to traffic congestion.

The St. Croix River Crossing is designed to satisfy federal historic preservation laws. The project will protect the historic Stillwater Lift Bridge by converting it into a signature component of a bicycle and pedestrian trail along and above the St. Croix River that will increase people’s access to the river.

The trail will also increase access to other historic and scenic sites, including the Bergstein Mill, the Old Log Cabin (Hideaway Restaurant), and the St. Croix Valley Scenic Overlook.
