The St. Croix River Crossing

St. Croix River Valley residents have been working to replace the 80-year-old Stillwater Lift Bridge for decades. An environmental mediator brought together 27 community members and federal and state regulators to review more than a dozen plans. After three years of work, the group decided that the St. Croix River Crossing is the best solution to balance the region’s needs.

Legislation that allows the St. Croix River Crossing project to move forward was passed by the U.S. Congress and signed by President Obama in March 2012. Work to complete the bridge plan is underway. Construction work is scheduled to start in spring 2013.
